2020 Positions Available:

Post-harvest Crew

The focus of this position is with our vegetable production, specifically in our packhouse.


Duties:

-Wash, sort, and inspect a variety of vegetables as they’re harvested

-Pack orders for wholesale customers

-Maintain the quality of harvested items in coolers

-Work as a team to complete large tasks

-Follow strict guidelines to ensure food safety

-Maintain a clean, tidy, organized environment.

-Wash/sanitize/clean harvest totes, equipment, workspaces

-Help Field crew if need/time allows


Skills desired:

-High attention to detail

-Organized

-Ability to focus and work independently

-Be able to work at a fast pace for an extended period of time & maintain excellent quality

-Be able to stand for 8 hours a day

-Don’t mind muddy hands & wet clothes and vice versa.

-Be able to lift 40+ pounds repeatedly.

-Have a positive attitude

-Professional and mature

-Valid drivers license

-Forklift experience helpful


Schedule:

Monday - Friday, approximately 40-45 hours a week. The main season is May-November. Winter hours are available to team members exceeding performance goals and committed to the farm.  One Saturday morning a month for the farmers market is possible.


Pay & Benefits:

Starting pay is $10-$11 an hour, periodic increases based on performance. Potential for higher starting pay for those with prior experience. Staff will have access to farm produce to take home and use for themselves and their immediate family.


In addition, we believe in the development of our members and often provide additional learning opportunities in their areas of interest.

Smoking or tobacco products are not allowed on the farm due to possible tobacco mosaic virus contamination.


Applicants must be able to provide their own transportation to and from the farm on work days. On-farm housing available.





Field Crew - 1 position available

The focus of this position is specifically with our vegetable production team.


Duties:

- Seed starting & greenhouse work

- Fieldwork including transplanting, seeding, cultivation, mowing, trellising, mulching, pest management, maintaining irrigation.

-Harvest 4 times a week, as well as large scale mechanical harvest for storage crops in the fall.

- Staff will work daily with crew leader to accomplish all  daily and weekly tasks.

- Assist with post-harvest tasks as needed

- Work one farmers market a month (additional opportunities if interested in working more).


Skills desired:

- Previous vegetable farm experience required

- Tractor operation proficiency

- Attention to detail in a high paced environment

- Must strive for the highest quality standards while working efficiently

- Absolutely must exhibit and maintain a positive, supportive attitude

- Ability to learn new skills and follow directions

- Willingness to work in all weather conditions

- Ability to take initiative, work independently and be forward-thinking.

- Applicants should find satisfaction in physical, dirty, meaningful and productive work.

- Ability to lift 60 lbs repeatedly throughout the day, stand for long periods of time, bend, stoop and reach, work on your hands and knees.

- Ability to work in any time of weather conditions: extreme heat, rain

Farmers Market Crew- 3 positions available


The focus of this position is to work at our Bloomington Farmers Market stall on Saturday mornings from May-October.


Duties:

  1. -Setting up/tearing down produce displays

  2. -Re-stocking

  3. -Creating signage

  4. -Keeping the area tidy

  5. -Welcoming customers, offering to help

  6. -Providing ideas for recipes, information about storage to customers as needed

  7. -Ensuring food safety requirements are met 

  8. -Process customer orders using our POS system, making change, 

- Absolutely must exhibit and maintain a positive, professional attitude at all times


Skills desired:

  1. -Basic knowledge of cooking and food prep of many different types of fresh vegetables

  2. -Excited to talk with strangers about how awesome vegetables are

  3. -Passion for organic agriculture and local food

  4. -Outgoing and professional demeanor

  5. -Ability to work in a very fast-paced environment while maintaining a positive attitude.

  6. -Must be open to feedback

  7. -Be able to lift 50+ pounds repeatedly and stand for 6 hours at a time

  8. -Tidy and reflect good hygiene

  9. -EXCELLENT customer service skills and experience

  10. -Absolutely no smoking, vaping, drinking or drug use allowed

  11. -Basic change handling (can you count back change without the register telling you?).


Schedule: At least 2 Saturdays a month, May-October plus Thanksgiving Market in November 21st. Hours are 6:00am-12:45pm. If you’d like more than 2 Saturdays a month, please indicate in your letter of interest.  Before starting, you will be required to come to the farm for food safety training.


Pay & Benefits: Starting pay is $10/hour. Farmers Market crew will get one 15 minute paid break. They will have access to farm produce to take home and use for themselves and their immediate family. In addition, we believe in the development of our members and often provide additional learning opportunities in their areas of interest.
